Lama V3 Modification for Spektrum 2.4GHz

E-mail Print PDF

Recently I noticed that at various times I was starting to experience radio issues with the Lama V3,  particularly where a number of other 35MHz users were around.  I put this down too poor selectivity of the receiver, either by poor design, or a fault.  Either way I wanted to upgrade to 2.4GHz. Having experienced perfect service from my Spektrum DX6i with my Blade 400, I wanted to investigate how practical it would be to "hack" the Esky Lama to support Spektrum's 2.4GHz DSM2.

Is 2.4GHz Suitable For Marine Use?

E-mail Print PDF

One of my current significant interests is learning to fly electric helicopters, and as an owner of an e-Flite Blade 400, I have a Spektrum 2.4GHz DX6i transmitter, and a Spektrum park flyer AR6100e receiver. However for marine use I use an aging two channel Futaba 27MHz AM set. So wouldn't it be nice if I could use my new Spektrum DX6i for my boating exploits too?

Models vs Toys

E-mail Print PDF

I'm sure every modeller has had to contend with people that consider models as just toys at least once.  I've spent some time wrestling with the concept myself.  Where exactly is the line drawn that defines what is considered a toy, and what is considered a model.  This conundrum is particularly relevant now, since so much is available in ready to run (RTR) form.

Is a ready to run boat, car, or aircraft, considered a model?  If so how do you distinguish between something that cost £10-15 from a supermarket from a highly detailed ready built model costing £300 or more?
